What Is Pool Rummy

In simple words to explain what Pool Rummy is, it is a regular Rummy but with knockout rounds, as you gain more points by losing, you will lose faster, and when you reach to certain point, you will lose the game.

Pool Rummy is like a regular Point Rummy, but with a fixed entry fee that is gathered in a prize pool. The winner will win the pool prize instead of the sum of the losses from other players. In Jili Pool Rummy, the winner will score 0 points after each round, the losing players will have accumulated scores according to their hands, the more you lose, the more points you will get, and when you reach up to 101 points or 201 points, you will be eliminated.

Here is an example of the rewards you will get:

  • Rewards = (Entry Fee) X (Number of Players -1 )X 95%

The question is, how will you calculate the point in each game you meet up with different numbers of players? As the points are calculated, it doesn't matter who your opponents are if there are always 5 or 3 players on the table, as soon as you reach 101 or 201 points, you will be out of the game. So the main focus will be on the balance between having fewer points until you win, you will be more clear after you read our Pool Rummy rules.

Pool Rummy starts with each player receiving 13 cards. The goal is to arrange these into valid sequences and sets.

Here’s how:

  • Draw and Discard: On your turn, pick one card from the closed or open deck and discard one to the open deck within 20 seconds.
  • Form Sequences and Sets: To declare a win, arrange cards into at least one pure sequence (no jokers) and other sequences or sets.
  • Declare a Win: Once you’ve organized all cards, click “Declare” instead of discarding to announce your winning hand.

Rounds continue until only one player remains, while others are eliminated if their score exceeds the limit.

Winning Pool Rummy involves creating valid sequences and sets with minimal points in your hand.

To declare a win:

  1. Form the Right Sequences and Sets: Ensure you have at least one pure sequence (a group of consecutive cards of the same suit without jokers). After forming the pure sequence, you need at least one more valid sequence or set.
  2. Declare Your Hand: When your cards are arranged according to the rules, select one final card to discard, and instead of discarding, choose the “Declare” button. This action signals that you have a winning hand.
  3. Avoid Accumulating Points: Aim to keep low-point cards in your hand and arrange them quickly to avoid penalty points if another player declares. In each round, points accumulate for players who haven’t declared, and anyone who exceeds the maximum point limit will be eliminated.

Point And Reward Calculation

Understanding points and rewards is crucial in Pool Rummy to track progress and make strategic decisions during gameplay:

Points Calculation:

  • Face cards (A, K, Q, J) carry 10 points each, while number cards are worth their face values. Jokers, including the Printed Joker, carry zero points.
  • Points are calculated only for ungrouped cards if a player has a pure sequence. With both a pure and impure sequence, points are minimized as only non-sequence cards count.
  • Maximum points in a single round are capped at 80. If a player misses their turn to declare, they will receive a penalty of 2 points.

Rewards Calculation:

  • Pool Rummy rewards are determined based on the entry fees collected from all players. The total prize pool equals the entry fee multiplied by the number of players (minus one) and then further adjusted by 95%.

Pool Rummy Cash Game Review

Considering I'm pretty new to Pool Rummy, I've played a whole day just to understand how and see if I can come up with better skills to win the Pool Rummy cash game. And after a few rounds, I did get some answers.

The best strategy and also a very important rummy tip is knowing when to drop the game and minimize your losses, due to the game setting to calculate the points.

Pool Rummy Cash Game Tips

I summed up some tips on when you should drop the cards for playing Pool Rummy, and here they are:

  • If you don't have first life from the starter, you should drop and take the minimum loss of 20 points, because you have no idea how other players' cards are, the reason why I said this is because I've got several times that my opponents won on the second dealt, or sometimes even the first dealt.
  • Even if you have first life in hand at the beginning, but you only have first life and other cards that can't be grouped, it's better to drop, or else you might be facing getting 80 points or at least 50 points, as if you have less card that can be grouped, you will get more point to lose.
  • If you still can't get your cards formed into groups after 5 rounds, it's better that you drop as well, try to control the points as low as you can.

After you understand the tips for dropping the game, let's talk about how these tips helped me win the Pool Rummy game:

These are the results of one of the Pool Rummy cash games I've won.

I've won this Pool Rummy cash game in 13 rounds, during each round, I've totally won 4 times, lost 2 times, dropped out 5 times, and opponents dropped out 2 times.

You can see that I dropped more than I've won and lost, and this helped me control my losses to the minimum, this is also the reason I've won at the end of the game as all of my opponents have been eliminated.

Always remember, if you are the last one standing, you will win the Pool Rummy cash game!!!
